Virtually hosted by The University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign
7-9 June, 2021
The Program Committee invites scholars conducting research on any aspect of Israel Studies to submit proposals for organized panels and individual papers. Of special interest are proposals relating to the conference theme: “Pluralistic Israel: Women, Minorities, and Diversity”. We particularly welcome papers or panels on minority communities in Israel including religious minorities (Christian, Muslim, Baha’i, Circassian and Druze), ethnic minorities, foreign workers, refugees, and women. We encourage not only proposals that focus on these groups but also those that delve into the significance and impact of such pluralism and diversity to questions of citizenship, democracy, transnational engagement, nationalism, and the fragmentation of the political and social landscape in Israel.
The 37th Annual Meeting of the Association for Israel Studies will be held virtually, hosted by the University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign. We have made the decision to go online in light of the increasing uncertainty following the COVID-19 pandemic, and since the safety and well-being of our members and conference attendees is our highest priority. These are challenging times but we feel confident that we will be able to put together an exciting and compelling conference that showcases cutting edge scholarship and reflects upon exciting new cultural and intellectual developments in Israel. We are planning a three-day conference but may add an additional day to accommodate the spread of time zones.
Deadline for Submission of all proposals: January 15, 2021
* You may resubmit accepted papers or panels from the cancelled AIS 2020 conference. Please indicate if the paper or panel was resubmitted in the online submission form. Please also indicate if you have made any changes in the text.
