Nominations for New Board Members Now Open

Apr 12, 2018, 21:06 PM

Dear AJS member,

I seek your assistance in suggesting nominees for the AJS Board of Directors.  Through a process recently approved by the Board, I, as chair of the AJS Nominations Committee, am asking AJS members to propose names of possible nominees – including self-nominations.  Our goal is to enable greater participation by AJS members in the whole nominations process. Please encourage colleagues to consider sharing their nominations with us as well.

AJS Board members serve a three-year term, with a possible renewal for a second term. Each year, one-third of the board’s members rotate off, and a slate of new nominees is proposed by the Nominations Committee.  Per AJS bylaws, this slate is ratified at the Business Meeting held at the beginning of the AJS Annual Conference.

In suggesting nominees, please keep in mind that the AJS Board strives to reflect the diversity of the field of Jewish Studies with respect to:

· discipline
· region
· type of institution
· stage of career
· gender

Suggested nominees’ familiarity with the AJS—through regular attendance at its conferences, involvement in publications, or other undertakings—is also  considered. Leadership experience at a home institution or in some other organization is likewise desirable, and, of course, it is always useful to know that a nominee actually desires to be further involved in the AJS.  Please note that the AJS welcomes as nominees members who work not only in the academy full time, but also outside of it in museums, archives, historical societies, libraries, non-profits, etc.

Nominations close: Wednesday, April 25, 2018.
