This December marks the 50th anniversary of the Association for Jewish Studies and we’re delighted to be celebrating with all of you.
To accommodate as many members in the festivities as possible, we’ve made exciting changes to the typical conference schedule, including a Sunday afternoon plenary and the Sunday evening AJS 50 and Forward Party in lieu of the traditional sit-down gala dinner. Read on for details!
Featuring music and light food, the AJS 50 and Forward Party will take place on Sunday evening in lieu of the gala dinner. The cost of the party is included in your conference registration fee, but we do ask that when you register for the conference, you RSVP for the party using the party registration link.
Everyone who registers/RSVPs in advance of the conference will receive one free drink at the party!
(When registering for the conference, please make sure that you are logged into your MyAJS account--an easy way to check is on the top-right of the screen, you'll see "Sign Out" instead of "Sign In!" If you arrive at the payment screen and the price is not correct, or if you are having trouble signing in, please contact Michelle in the AJS office at mkatz@
The 2018 plenary lecture will be delivered by incoming President of Williams College, Maud Mandel, and will take place on Sunday afternoon, in an earlier and dedicated time slot. We hope that this new time slot will make it possible for many more members to participate. The plenary will also include the announcement of the 2018 Jordan Schnitzer Book Awards and special programming to mark this anniversary occasion. A coffee break will precede the plenary lecture. Seating at the plenary is limited and will be filled on a "first come, first served" basis.
Take a piece of the celebration home with you! The AJS is selling 50th anniversary commemorative mugs for $12 in advance and $15 at the conference (supply limited). Buy yours when you register! Unfortunately, we cannot ship mugs so if you can’t make the conference, please arrange to have a colleague pick up your mug for you.
We need your help! Do you have photos of yourself and colleagues from previous conferences you can share with us? Photos of you at work in the field of Jewish Studies--teaching, lecturing, or conducting research? If so, we’d like to incorporate them into the festivities. Upload them here.
We will continue to update you as plans take shape, so stay tuned for further details. See you in Boston where we began 50 years ago.
Looking forward to celebrating with you.
