The editors of AJS Perspectives are soliciting submissions to the “Rainbow Issue” for the Spring 2025 magazine. Send us your LGBTQIA+ stories: you can be as personal as you wish, or apply social, historical, theological, academic lenses (just to name a few) to the analysis of the histories, cultures, voices and artistic productions related to Jews and sexual orientation and gender identities. From LGBTQIA+ histories in Nazi Europe to Aryeh Kaplan’s Tisha b’Av short stories, from ancient and contemporary interpretations of Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13 to Eric Steel’s film Minyan, and anything in-between and far beyond, we welcome your elaborations on the subject.

We invite pitches/abstracts of up to 250 words.

We aim to promote a diversity of voices including career stage, geographical location, gender, religion, race, sexuality, and ability.

Deadline for pitches December 20, 2024

Decisions will be communicated by early January and completed essays will be due by February 24, 2025

Note that prospective authors will also be required to submit a writing sample (or a sample introductory paragraph) showing facility with writing in a clear and engaging way for a non-specialist audience.
